PCB appoints Imam as Shaheens skipper for WI warm-up

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled a 14-member Pakistan Shaheens squad for a three-day warm-up match against the West Indies Test side.

The match is scheduled to take place at the Islamabad Club from Friday, January 10.

Test batter Imam-ul-Haq has been appointed as the captain of the Shaheens for the warm-up fixture.

Imam, who represented Multan in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25, displayed exceptional performance with the bat, scoring 635 runs in five matches at an average of 79.37, which included one fifty and three centuries.

He is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Among the key inclusions is pacer Musa Khan, who has been in sensational form this domestic season, taking 38 wickets in five Quaid-e-Azam Trophy matches.

The West Indies Test squad recently arrived in Dubai for a recovery stop and is expected to reach Islamabad on Monday, January 6.

The Pakistan Shaheens squad will also assemble on the same day.

Preparations for the match will begin on January 7, with the Shaheens training at the Islamabad Club.

Meanwhile, the West Indies squad will undergo two intensive training sessions on January 8 and 9.

The warm-up match serves as a precursor to the two-match Test series between Pakistan and the West Indies, part of the ICC World Test Championship.

Both Tests will be held at the Multan Cricket Stadium, with the series opener starting on January 17.

West Indies Test squad:

Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Alick Athanaze, Keacy Carty, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Tevin Imlach, Amir Jangoo, Mikyle Louis, Gudakesh Motie, Anderson Phillip, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Kevin Sinclair, and Jomel Warrican.
